Our History

What Makes Us Unique

Marshall Funeral Home has proudly served Richmond Hill area families for 129 years. In 1876 two brothers named Wright established their wagon making/undertaking business on Yonge St. in Richmond Hill and founded the Wright Funeral Home. They were eventually joined by Tom Taylor who became a partner and continued to operate Wright and Taylor Funeral Home.In 1958 Stan Pipher joined Mr. Taylor and later purchased the business from him, christening it Pipher Funeral Home. Grant Marshall bought the establishment from Stan in 1966 and renamed it the Marshall Funeral Home. The funeral home remained in the original building on Yonge St. and underwent several renovations over the years. In 1993 Grant built an entirely new 24,000 square foot building on the same lot. On February 1st,1995 two long term employees, Tom Lalonde and Neil Hunking purchased the Funeral Home and continue to operate it as a family business under the Marshall Funeral Home name.
